Mare Owners return to 'Little Smarty Oak' in 2006:

The 2006 season started out pretty much the same as 2005, with many of the previous years clients returning, along with lots of new clients as well. The drought played a part on the total number of mares that were bred this year, with some breeders deferring until 2007, hoping for a better season. It meant that actual numbers of mares bred were down slightly on 2005, however we are expecting the 2007season to be huge! For some mare owners 2007 will be the fourth successive year of breeding their mares to 'Little Smarty Oak'! What greater recommendation can there be than this?

The 2005 season proved to be huge success for 'Little Smarty Oak', with 47 mares being bred using AI with chilled semen, of which 46 tested positive. The resulting progeny have been very impressive, with all mare owners telling the same story of foals being quiet, kind and sensible with big hips, good legs and exceptional athletic ability. Colours have included palomino, buckskin, red dun, bay, chestnut, palomino paint and a couple of really loud coloured paints.

The photos sent in by mare owners have been great. It is really satisfying to receive these pictures of mares with their foals and speaking with their owners about their future plans. Some of these foals will be cutters, some will be reiners, while campdraft and rodeo, halter and western pleasure are also on the list of prospective careers for his progeny. Regardless of which future direction is taken I am sure they will be successful.
