About Us...
The Northern Tablelands
Western Horse Club Inc., was formed in
2006 to
foster and promote activities for enthusiasts of the western breeds of horses, such as the
Quarter Horse, Paint Horse and Appaloosa, as well as enthusiasts of the
exciting and fast growing sport of Team Penning!
The club
is made up of enthusiasts from the Northern Tablelands area of New South Wales,
with members from as far south as Bendemeer through to Tenterfield, with
the majority coming from the Uralla and Armidale areas. While many of
the members were past members of a
previous regional club - the Armidale & District Western Performance Club -
which ceased operating in 2001, there are also many new faces amongst
the membership, indicating the interest in the western industry!
The first events staged by
the new club were held in 2006, with combined Western
Performance and Team Penning events. All events were held at
the Armidale Exhibition Centre, through until December of
2006 when that venue was destroyed in a hail storm. After
that time events were transferred to the Armidale Showground
and were held there until all equine activities were
suspended in August 2007 due to the outbreak of Equine
Influenza.
With Australia now having
the all clear from EI the club recommenced activities in
2008, however with some people seemingly taking a permanent
break from horses following EI and without a suitable venue
we struggled to attract numbers and eventually decided to
take a break until the rebuilding of the Exhibition Centre
was completed.
With the Exhibition Centre
now almost complete and due to re-open in January 2010
planning is underway for a range of events to be held
throughout the coming year, the first of which is the Northern
Tablelands Western Horse Challenge.
